I don't like Vanilla Scoble

Robert Scoble, the “Microsoft Geek blogger”, has recently had a complaint that he only writes about Microsoft and he figured that he was in a rut and decided to get out of his rut by deliberately not writing about his usual topics of Microsoft, Google and Yahoo (GYM) for 100 posts… So, for the last 3 days he’s been writing about other stuff… There are problems with this idea though…

  • I don’t read him to read about all of this other stuff he’s now writing about, so for me his blog has now lost focus. I don’t have time to read unfocussed blogs and when the signal to noise ratio goes too far the wrong way I ditch them.

  • He seems to be on a sprint to get through the 100 posts as fast as possible. So, not only is he now writing about stuff that I’m not interested in he’s writing lots of posts per day that I’m not interested in. Right now he’s up to 33 items in 3 days… That signal to noise ratio just keeps getting worse…

  • There’s no way, as far as I can see, for me to subscribe to “Classic Scoble” and ignore the new “Vanilla Scoble” (or Cherry Scoble, or whatever’s next…). Sure with this particular no GYM session my “Classic” subscription would be quiet but at least when it was over things would go back to normal and I wouldn’t have to deal with the subject matter change… This is why I added RSS feeds for each category to this blog and split the blog up; I don’t want to bore the people who only come here for testing tips with my ski trips, etc. Robert already does this for his ’link blog’…

So, whilst it may be an interesting experiment for Robert it’s possibly annoying for regular readers who read him because of his restricted subject matter. I guess I’ll just have to ignore him for another 67 postings until he gets back to normal…
